All of our ideas of beauty spring from an unconscious source rooted in the natural world. Nature can be peaceful, dramatic or disturbing. A landscape view may change in mood from one hour to the next. The world is never static. Patterns emerge and similar shapes and forms may appear in different subject matter.

My work explores ephemeral qualities, whether I am painting flowers, water, or people. I paint the patterns that emerge and the breadth of color that is revealed when one closely examines a subject. I do not pursue realism; rather the subjects become abstracted by the process of exploring the shapes, patterns, and colors that make up the whole.

Light affects how subjects are represented. Light reveals or obscures. The paintings of water subjects give me a chance to explore the surface and depth, as well as reflection in a single moment in time.
